NWBA run pitching events for their network of angel investors. They work closely with sister organisation the Angel Co-Investment Service.

One of UK’s longest established and most successful business angel networks, with almost half of the companies selected to present to the network able to raise investment. Since Northwest Business Angels was established, in excess of £22m has raised by over 250 companies.”

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Be located in the Northwest – covering Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Cumbria, or be willing to re-locate.
  • Seeking between £20k and £500k in return for an equity stake in your business.
  • Your company should exhibit the ability for rapid growth.
  • Have an experienced management team, or the desire to build a successful team.
  • The business/proposition should be in a growing market with a clear strategy for long-term expansion.
  • Demonstrate competitive advantage -A clear technological advantage, a novel product or service or innovative distribution channel.

Once registered on-line a A2F Advisor will make an initial evaluation of your proposition and respond to you within seven days, depending on the outcome you will then progress through the following stages:

  • ‘Investment Readiness’ Sessions – Your A2F Advisor will ensure that you are ‘investment ready’, only when he is convinced that your proposition is viable will you be invited to present (or ‘pitch’) at one of our Investor Club meetings, and/or your proposition will go on-line for all our registered investors to view. At this stage you will be asked to certify your business credentials by making a declaration.
  • ‘Pitch’ Rehearsals– When your A2F Advisor is happy with your proposition, you will attend two half-day rehearsals to help you prepare a 5 minute presentation. You will be guided on your presentation and executive summary contents, given an overview of how to raise business angel funding, and training on delivery of your ‘pitch’.
  • Investor Club Events – Northwest Business Angels Investor Club meetings are held at various locations across the region, providing plenty of opportunities to discuss your business with Northwest Business Angels members.

Turbo Drinks Company

The company produces Turbo Shandy, a premium-strength shandy made with lager and alcoholic lemonade, which offers consumers an alternative to beer and traditional bottled  alcohol. It’s brands also include Turbo Green, Turbo Blue and Turbo Black.

Why they invested

Their is already a growing trend for customers seeking out new drinks such as premix bottled cocktails, and as an industry and Turbo Drinks had potential to capitalise on this with their launch.

Turbo Drink’s founder and director, Nigel Tarn, also had a wealth of experience in this industry, having had phenomenal success launching Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer for Halewood International.

YoYo Media

Regional independent television production company, whose primary focus is to specialise in devising and producing popular mainstream drama and factual entertainment formats.

Why they invested

Jo Hallows, Chief Executive of YoYo Media, already had vast experience in creating successful television programmes in her previous role as Head of Drama at Merseyside Television, which therefore also enabled her to build a top level team of industry professionals for YoYo Media.
